Caterham Sevens have used numerous powertrain configurations through recent years, from the traditional 1600cc Ford Crossflow to the latest Ford Zetec "Seven America" factory authorized installations. When you buy a kit, you can either source your own preferred configuration, or we can easily assist you in choosing among powertrain options. Caterham USA has available for our customers kit-ready 2.0l Zetec installations. Most recently, Caterham USA completed development of the Ford Zetec SVT.

Caterham USA offers both 5 and 6 speed transmissions with Ford Zetec engine installations.

The 5-spd transmissions are factory refurbished units from British Ford models such as the Sierra. They offer a robust design which, when coupled to any of the available Zetec packages, provides an incredibly quick, accurate gear change and a wide gear ratio. This option is ideal for open road driving and the occasional trackday.

The 6-spd transmission is custom manufactured to Caterham’s exacting specifications and design. With shorter throws and close ratios, the 6-spd option gives the driver access to the full rpm range at any time. While the 5-spd gives a 4th gear 1-1 ratio, the 6-spd gives a 6th gear 1-1; that’s two more gears where you want them. For racing, track days and spirited road driving, the 6-spd is a must have.
